My wife and I purchased a couch and a love seat from the Bridgewater, NJ store. We have never been treated so poorly. Ethan Allen treats its customers like complete garbage. Do not buy from these people. They are born liars and thieves.

We have been waiting since July. The salesperson Roberta is the most snotty salesperson I have ever met. When we purchased the furniture she signed us up for the Lane credit card even though we told her we did not want it. We put the purchase on our American Express, but still had to take the *** card. This was so she could get her commission.

Roberta told us that the furniture would be ready in September. Then we were told November. We were told that the furniture late because it was being made in Italy. This was a lie. When we told her that we were upset that we had to wait so long time, she told us that she is a professional interior designer; that this was custom made furniture; and that if we didn't want to wait to get our furniture we should have shopped at Raymour Flanigan. I told her that the furniture was probably made in the same place.

Now we have to wait until February. Who knows if we will ever get the furniture. Roberta said that she could give us no reason why are furniture is not going to be delivered. My guess is that they are probably going bankrupt and they are going to try to steal our money.

We are professional people, yet she treated us like we were proles--mind you after we spent thousands of dollars in her store. I am an attorney and I honestly think that Ethan Allen has engaged in consumer fraud. My wife and I are so outraged by this. I am sincerely thinking about taking legal action against Ethan Allen. I believe that there actions have violated New Jersey's consumer fraud statute which would entitle me to treble damages. I think its about time that all the people who are getting screwed by Ethan Allen band together and sock it to them right in their pocketbook.

We have purchased furniture from Thomasville and Flemington Department Store and have never had a problem such as this. These places know what good customer service is.

We are a newly married couple and purchased the furniture so that we could have Thanksgiving and Christmas with our family. Now noone will have any place to sit. Thanks Ethan Allen for ruining our holidays!

Location: Flemington, New Jersey

Ha ha ha, imagine this I have a credit score of around 715. But because I decided to open credit lines in a short period of time just to have them with businesses I already shop with, with the logic that if they change their product lines drastically which many stores do if they have a drop is sales, mostly because I prefer clothing and other products within a minority taste.

This discounts me as a consumer. I refuse to make a purchase for any goods that I do not want, so asking for credit lines for me was a means to expound upon my likes. On the other side of logic because of the way in which vendors have been changing in the last 5 years or so, I understood that if I stopped purchasing from stored that I have credit lines with because they have changed products away from styles I want, I figure okay if they close an account for non active use, it's less likely to harm my credit score. Thus Ethan assumed I have a habit being like a criminal and refused to give me any credit in any way, which I'm cool with.

I can however understand how damaging their mentality can be, I mean if one isn't instantly approved, at least give the courtesy to know your potential customer first, it's bad business sense to make a supposition.

If anything offer credit to reduce the liability of the underwriting bank. In the end you'll end up paying the financing bank far less if you did so.

Ethan Allen is a terrible corporation. They hired degreed interior designers then only pay them commission, it is very cut throat.

It is barely design, mostly sales. That is why the designers will help you pick out whatever you want if it will make you buy it! Can garuntee that if you cancelled your order...which by law you can do...the designer would not get paid.

Always go above the comissioned salesperson's head because the management and corporate office are the ones who perpetuate this system. It is a terrible one!

Ethan Allen actually did the right thing in the end and we got our sofa and a small discount.

Ha!Ha! I got the professional interior designer line also.

I think more like how to design a plan to make someone spend a lot of money in their store so they get a big commission.

And since they are an interior designer, why don't they have fun and be whimsical choosing whatever they like and not what the customer has communicated to them about there taste. So fun making money and fantasizing about what you would like to do.

That is the same load of *** they gave me. I was told of a fabric shortage, then it was defective fabric.

I was promised delivery that always seemed to be 2-4 weeks away.

Etahn Allens tactic are clear, they string you along with the promise of delivery.

Hoping that the 2-4 week delay will keep you as a customer. Think of it this way cancel now and in 8 weeks you could have your furniture from another store.

Update: I spoke with Paula. She seemed very nice.

She said that the delay was a result of the fabric being low in quantity.

She promised that I would get the furniture in 2 weeks. I will keep you posted to let you know if I get the furniture before Christmas.

I just saw the posting from Ms. Mandeville. Will keep you posted.

So how did this end?

Was Paula Mandville any help?

Did you cancel your order?

I agree with you and I think you should definitely take legal action if you haven't already. We all wish we could do something about Ethan Allen but don't know how to go about it.

You on the other hand have an advantage. You are an attorney and know how to handle these situations.
